CHRISTMAS LETTER 2002: ONE YEAR, MANY JOURNEYS

On the peak of "Chimney Tops", in the Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee (20 July)

December, 2002

To our Dearest Family and Friends,

2002 has been an incredible year for us. For starters, it was the first year of our wonderful marriage. After our wedding, I joined Vince in Atlanta, where he is continuing his 2nd year of training as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The EIS officers are commonly known as "disease detectives", where they investigate disease outbreaks around the world and try hard not to bring them home. I spend part time volunteering with Emory University Hospitals, where I assist with patient families and their needs. We attempt to keep a balanced life--although we are far away from many of our friends and family, we have made new friends here through church and through work. Vince swims several times a weeks and we enjoy activities such as hiking and bicycling. In August, Vince completed his 3rd olympic-distance triathlon.

We spent much of 2002 on the road, partly vacation, partly work-related. We flew to Boston in June to spend a 10-day honeymoon in New England and Canada. One week in July was spent with the family in Tennessee. Vince's work took him to New York, San Diego, Wisconsin, Bangkok, Saigon, Kuala Lumpur, and Grand Cayman Island. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to accompany him on most of his trips! Later this month Vince is also scheduled to work in Bangladesh.

This year brought wonderful news from our families. On Vince's side, Vernon announced his engagement to Joan with the wedding set for July 2003. On my side, Mom celebrated her 60th birthday and despite her busy schedule was able to visit Australia for the first time.

We've had a wonderful year and God has really blessed us. What's in store for 2003? We're not quite sure yet. Vince's training ends in June and we're not exactly sure whether we will stay here in Atlanta or move. We really do miss all of you and hope you can either come visit us or have us visit you. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season, God's blessings to you, and a joyous New Year.

Love, Grace & Vince
