December, 2005
Dear Family and Friends,
By
the end of 2005, we will have celebrated our first full year in
Florida and our fourth year of marriage. We have not quite
settled down completely, as this year will also be remembered as
the year of career transitions...but fortunately we are
staying put geographically.
This year is the first since
our wedding that Grace has begun working full-time. In August,
she started employment at Florida Hospital as a Research
Coordinator for the residency programs by keeping both residents
and faculty in line with their research projects. Since neither of us spend much time at
home now, we have had to hire others to do our lawn for us
(remember our last newsletter? Grace won her bet; I think I
lasted about 5 months doing my own yard). And because of
Grace's new job, we purchased a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid–it
zooms around quite nicely!
After one year of private practice, I
decided that I had enough. Providing direct patient care was not
what I wanted to do for the rest of my career. Grace & I spent
many hours discussing whether we made the right decision to move
to Florida and strategizing a return to Seattle. The search for a
new career ended when I interviewed for and was appointed
Medical Director for Patient Safety and Infection Control for
Florida Hospital. This is a responsibility that is much more
suited for me, although I have only been on the job since
December 6.
For those of you familiar with our
interests, we have had our opportunities to travel, which
remains quite
convenient for married couples without children. In the spring
we visited London and Los Angeles; during summer we spent a few
days each in Seattle, New York City, DC, and San Francisco. Finally,
in November we traveled to Taiwan to visit my grandfather, who
turned 87 on December 1. He is doing remarkably well for his
age. It was Grace's first trip to Taiwan and as an added bonus,
Grace's mother was also able to fly from Penang to meet us
there.
As we reflect back on this year, Grace & I
want to thank all of you for your support and love over this
past year. 2005 has been a particularly devastating year for
many in light of the effects of last year's tsunami, hurricane
Katrina, and the Pakistani earthquake, among others. We are very
fortunate to be in a safe and nurturing environment and thank God for our many
blessings. We wish you a blessed and prosperous 2006!
Love, Grace & Vincent
