TIMELINE
OF EVENTS: JULY TO DECEMBER 2003
|
We move out of our home in Georgia and
spend the month mostly in hotels
in Atlanta, Alabama, and Hawaii. |
JULY
|
We're settling in nicely. Vince is
adjusting to his new position, and we're finding time to explore
the region and getting to know more friends. |
SEPTEMBER |
Atlanta,
GA. We say goodbye to our Friday night vesper group by having
a picnic on the campus of Emory University. |
|
Seattle,
WA. This is our apartment building on a good day. So now
you have no excuse to say that you can't recognize our
place. |
|
Lilburn,
GA. We also say farewell to two wonderful friends from Stone
Mountain SDA church, Lucile Davis and her grandson, Steve.
|
|
Mount
Rainier, WA. This volcanic mountain is Washington's highest and is so massive
it has its own weather system. [Note: can use as wallpaper -

|
Honolulu,
HI. Vincent's brother, Vernon, gets hitched with his
bride,
Joan Fidel. Other members of the family (L to R) are Eugene
(Dad), Lisa (sister), Alice (Mom), Steve
(brother-in-law), and Shawn (nephew).
|
|
Seattle, WA. Kip & Amy Baggett on the Washington
State Ferry, heading to Bainbridge Island for a weekend bicycle
ride.
|
|
Honolulu,
HI. We are so happy to spend some time with Vince's
grandfather, Ti-Cheng Hsu and aunt Shiu-lan, who
arrived from Taiwan the day of the wedding.
|
|
Olympic
National Park, WA. On top of Hurricane Ridge with Evonne
and John Randolph. The smoke behind us comes from a forest
fire that was started by lightning.
|
|
We take a
leisurely eight days drive from Alabama to Washington, stopping
along the way in St. Louis, Kansas City, the Badlands and
Yellowstone / Grand Teton National Parks. |
AUGUST |
It starts to
become overcast and thus we take less pictures. However, we're
able to get some good days and still do some exploring, including
Canada, Oregon, and Olympic National Park. |
OCTOBER |
Badlands National Park, SD.
We camp for one night here; the winds are fierce at night but the
scenery is breathtaking. |
|
Victoria,
BC, Canada. Heavy rain does not spoil the spectacular fall
colours in the Butchart Gardens, nor the enthusiasm of Grace's
mom, Hannah, who came to visit us from Malaysia for three
weeks. |
|
Grand
Teton NP, WY. We camp here for two nights; just cannot get over the beauty of the area. We highly recommend visiting this
part of the country if you haven't already. |
|
Portland,
OR. We visit the city where Vincent did medicine residency
and to see Tony Van Ho (front), a friend from
residency; he is accompanied by a friend, Philip. |
|
Grand
Teton NP, WY. Coming face-to-face with this black bear was
the most frightening experience we had on our cross-country trip.
After snapping this photo the bear reared up in front of us, but
did not charge. |
|
Now it's
really overcast and raining often, and we're not going out nearly
as much, and even less photos are taken. Thus begins the time of
year when we curl up on the sofa with a book and a great cup of
tea. |
NOVEMBER
- DECEMBER |
Berrien Springs, MI.
It's a boy--again! Jason Dao Li DeWitt was born on August
7 at 6 pounds, 11 ounces to proud parents Lisa & Steve and
brother Shawn. |
|
Ho Chi
Minh City, Vietnam. Vince is able to make one more trip
overseas to continue a research project from last year, and is
shown with local researchers and collaborators of the Pasteur
Institute. |
|
Seattle,
WA. We arrive in Seattle safely and Vince starts work,
assigned to the King County Communicable Disease Program, located
on the 9th floor of the Wells Fargo Tower (arrow). |
|
Vancouver,
BC, Canada. If we're not eating Chinese food, we're eating ice
cream at La Casa Gelato, a super store with 198 flavours! The
owner (behind counter) is also named Vince, but he's a real
Italian. |
