Church at Celebration; Celebration at Chinatown

Today is my one month birthday! It's going to be packed with activities. First, I'm going to church for the first time, and not at a traditional church, but at a hospital church called Celebration Health. I've been in the hospital enough, so it was concerning at first, but I think this will be different. Daddy's brass group was invited to play music for the service, and he's playing this huge instrument called the tuba, definitely bigger than me!

My Red Egg & Ginger Party

Later this evening is my one-month birthday party. This celebration, known in Chinese as "man yue," which means "first moon" is the first celebratory event for newborns in Chinese culture. It is also referred to as a "red egg and ginger party." Traditionally, the parents hand out red eggs to guests and introduce the baby's name; guests are served ginger soup with pig's feet. Don't know exactly what the origins are, but I guess they figure if you can make it to one month, you'll be OK! We'll be eating at a restaurant called Chinatown with the usual gang. But tonight's dinner will be without red eggs, and please, no pig's feet!

See the red packet beside me? That's a traditional gift for me which contains money, which I will save for my education fund. Thanks Yi-Por Serena!

Emi's Quote of the Day (As written by Daddy)

Every now and then Emi will say something remarkable, hence the quote of the day. Certainly has the effect to sway the individuals right next to her to action, much like a motivational speaker can get the crowd right into it. Quote is repeated now and then, at 8:00am, 10am, 12pm, 3pm, etc. you get the drift.

Ready?

Here we go!

Oh, sorry...you need to scroll down...

Just a bit more...

Very close,  almost there now...

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"

Hope you didn't expect much more from a 1-month old...

Emi's First Smile Captured on Film

Of course, at this age, I don't do this voluntarily. It wasn't like Daddy said "cheese" and I smiled. In fact, I think he had to wait for a very long time before the moment was right. However, we infants have been known at times to touch the hearts of the adults, and this is certainly one of those moments.

Out of the Hospital and Feeding Well

Whew, it is so good to get out of that hospital. Ten days was long enough! Not that I don't appreciate all the care I received, but I was without milk and on IV fluids for four days! Since arriving home I've had to get used to breastfeeding again, but mommy hopes I'll get re-acclimated soon enough.

For those of you who didn't know about my ordeal in the hospital, click on the Oct 2007 link Emi's Close Call.

*Burp* That's me & my mom after a good feed!

A New Blog? For Me? Thank You, Mommy & Daddy!

Hi there! My name is Emi. Welcome to my blog. You might be wondering what all the change is about? In consultation with my daddy, we thought it best to try a new format. Effective October, Emi's World Blog will replace the previous newsletter A New Year of Happiness. You can still view previous issues in the left hand column, but this new blog format is easier to update. Plus, I like the new name, hee hee!
